Glass Blown Open

Thursday, April 25-Sunday, April 27, 2025

history

Eric McCabe (PDGA #11674) and best friend Gabe Werly started the Glass Blown Open with big dreams in 2003. The event's first year was a PDGA B-Tier with 88 competitors. World-renowned artist Hal Berger designed the original glass trophies, which added tremendous value and prestige to the young event. In 2006, Hal passed away at 54 in his sleep and passed the art of blowing the glass trophies to Brice Turnbull, who studied under Berger. Now, the excitement for the event has surpassed the hopes and dreams of McCabe and Werly. The Glass Blown Open became the largest disc golf event in the world! Since then, it has changed time and time again.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Glass Blown Open is a professional-amateur A-Tier disc golf tournament. This three-day, three-round event is a True Amateur tournament meaning it's trophy only for amateur divisions. However, we offer a bonus payout to top finishers, provide a high value player pack, host a block party, and give out hot round prizes.

During the event, several ancillary festivities happen off the course, such as stamping a disc at our headquarters, the welcome party, mechanical bull and karaoke, live music, and so much more. The city of Emporia loves disc golf just as much as we do and they want to make your experience off the course just as fun as on the course. Check out the Event Schedule for more information!

The event is also a DGPT Q-Series for MPO and FPO. More information about the Q-Series here.
