Must Have Tool in your Bag

Good quality and essential when needed. Used it more when I first started playing disc golf.

Its OK; Head Not Designed for Swaps?

Purchased from one of my local discing outfitters, I needed to get a new retriever after an “Amazon Special” fell apart on me (the threaded head literally fell off.) I grabbed this retriever in fall of 2024 and carried it for 1/2 events at the end of the season. While definitely more rigid than the Amazon counterpart, the two claw prong can be a bit tricky to master vs a suction ball or one of the other “water claw” attachments.

Fast forward to Feb 2025, I bought a suction cup ball attachment thinking it would be an easy swap for the claw head. Not sure if a true “thread locker” or other adhesive was placed on the DD prong claw threads, but it was an event to remove it. The ball I purchased came with an M6 or M8 screw (store claimed “universal pole fit” which is not DD’s issue…) if I recall, which was not the thread of this retrieving pole. Found a screw at my work to make it function but the threaded head does spin a little when tightening down. It did not specifically state anything against claw removal for other heads, nor does it state that it can accept them. So that’s a bit of a grey area for me on the product when I bought something cheaper with switchable heads. Maybe a note recommending not to change or a note of what can the pole can accept?

Back to the rigidity, this is quite steady and firmer vs my original. But I would say that the 3rd party suction cup ball adds a few more ounces of weight, and it gets a little floppy as you extend out past 10-12ft. Using the suction cup ball requires a little more tension to be able to apply the sticky properties of it to get it out of the water, but it is a better performance than my prior Amazon Special.

If this is truly designed as a 1 head use only, claw-type retriever, it’s fine. It ticks a box for that, albeit with the challenge of water retrieving. The ambiguity of retrievers now and swappable head features lead me to think this was no different than my other pole setup, but in hindsight thinking it really wasn’t meant to swap tools. Would give 3.5 stars if I could because it has saved not only my but friends’ discs too with the added stiffness and pole support (the hand grip is also much better.) But for only being a 1-head retriever, it’s a bit pricey and lacks the definitive details of “don’t swap heads” or “accepts X-type of head.” So it lands at 3/5 for me.

Its Okay

Good not great, but does as advertised. In my experience this type of retriever is not as useful as others I have used but this design does have its perks.
